I will never forget this station. I'm not sure there are any left from 1986, but if there are, this is for you. You helped save my life and I can never thank you enough for all you did to help me stay alive. It was July 23, 1986 around 7:30 pm. I was only 18 at the time and riding on the back of a small motorcycle, when suddenly we were hit by a drunk driver in a van that was exceeding 85 mph. He tore me up pretty bad, especially, what must have been like watching a horror movie, my left leg, which was tore to pieces and surely bleeding me out. This was among many other injuries including a broken pelvic, crushed left hand, and broken arm very close to the shoulder. Station 24 was there very quickly, as the crash happened just down Wentworth a few miles. I remember talking to one of the brave men as he asked me questions. I remember arguing with him about not cutting off my new coat my mother had just bought me for my 18th birthday just two months before. He had a little surprised giggle because here I was, torn to bits and bleeding to death, but I was worried about my coat. LOL. They called for the chopper to come fly me to Holy Cross Hospital Trauma Center, and while waiting, did what they could to work on me and keep me alive; keep me talking...and it worked. I just wanted you to know how much I still think about you brave men and women at Station 24. And I wanted to thank you again for being there for me. I hope there are still some around who were there that night, or if not, the ones who are there maybe know who was there, and can pass on this message. Thank you for all you do.
