I adopted a shelter kitty for my daughter & they gave us a free initial health exam. The waiting area was calm & the staff were competent & helpful. She needed shot(s) & I knew I signed up for that. They didn't pressure me to get all kinds of vaccinations. I'm on a budget & they were happy to take the time to tell me what shots were necessary & the cost. I went back to get her next vaccination & they were equally as friendly, helpful & organized as they were the first time. She has 2 other vaccinations due in the future & once again they explained to me what they were for & the cost (their fees are ridiculously fair). I did some research on line & everything they said was true. My point being, they are honest, reasonable & our new veterinarian!
I was denied service at 9:00 pm even though the facility advertises as being open until 10:00 pm. The receptionist seemed unconcerned that my dog was in pain. She told me only that the vet had been on since 2:00 in the afternoon. I said I was sorry he’d been working so hard, and suggested perhaps they were understaffed and shouldn’t claim to be open until 10:00 if they can’t see patients after a certain time. She did not ask about my dog or suggest another facility. I wanted to give her a piece of my mind but I had to find another hospital for my dog, so I left
Many expensive tests were unnecessarily recommended (x-ray, blood test, urinalysis) to treat a straightforward condition with a clearly defined treatment plan (fluids, antibiotics and narcotics). As soon as I declined the expensive tests, my cat was no longer welcome to stay past his procedure time, though they said they would keep him until he urinated to check his health was restoring. The prescription food was full of fillers and pork and beef byproduct, although advertised as chicken liver - even basic brands from the pet store compared to be much more wholesome. I did not receive a comprehensive explanation on my pet's condition, nor verbal briefing on his antibiotics regimen. This place really sucks for desemination of information, wouldn't reccomend.
Absolutely the worst animal hospital. I guess different people will have different experiences, but I went 4 times in a row and every time something had happened and they would tell me we aren’t taking patients right now. I would even call to make sure they were open for patients and 10 min later I would go in and then they would tell me oh we aren’t taking new patients now, even I after I called 10 mins prior and they said the were! They don’t take appointments it’s first come first serve. I went early in the morning every time. Yeah they have cheap prices, but so is their service, cheap. Spend the extra money and go elsewhere.
Dr. Barrera is awesome! My mom and I both take our dogs to him. I live in San Diego and still come up so he can check my dogs on non-urgent matters. The front office needs lots of work, however. Had it not been for some really unprofessional front office workers, I would have given it 5 stars.
