I just got off the phone with a very rude employee of this shop - calling to see if they would be interested in purchasing my vintage bicycle. He seemed to be frustrated with me because I could not understand much of what he was saying (he had a thick accent). He asked what parts I was looking for. I kept repeating that I have a vintage hybrid bike to sell. He finally absorbed what I was saying after I repeated it 4/5 times, and he said they don't want vintage bikes.
I asked him if he could provide a referral as I am new to LA and am not sure where to go. He got VERY annoyed and said try CL or just keep calling around. I said that is the point of asking for a referral - there aren't that many shops in town but there's enough to where it will take me quite a bit of time to cold call them all. I asked if he could suggest anything - beyond CL. He said he was not going to call bike stores for me. I started laughing. I let him know he just lost a customer. I told him I am an avid cyclist, and this store is the closest to my new home. I told him had he just been kind and not rude, all my future bike tuneups (I own 3 bikes rn), equipment purchases, and more would have happened at thier shop. I said I actually need to buy new bike shorts and a few things this week, but it won't be from Safety Cycle. I told him it was not just rude but terribly short sighted to not take time to try and help a potential customer. That I am looking to sell the vintage hybrid right now, but long term I need a bike store I can trust to do my repeat / regular business with. The guy did not care one bit.
Nice local bike store, good variety.
These guys have been very good to me every time I've gone in there.
This store really cares about its customers. I bring my bike here for tuneups and repairs. They are very efficient and they explain the mechanics of what they're doing so that I understand what they are doing and charging me for, but also what I can do to prevent the need for repairs (my enthusiasm for my bike makes me a little rough on it sometimes). They are very polite and one of the few stores of any kind that clearly teaches its staff the concept of customer service
The second time I got my hubs serviced for a reasonable price and was able to come by for minor adjustments for free after the service. You could tell they'd taken extra time and love to cap my shortened break wires and adjusted my caliper break. Couldn't recommend Wiggle enough!
