The subcontractor said NorthStar never gave him the itemized list I sent for the estimate. I sent the list since I had items like a gun safe that I knew would be an additional charge, but apparently those charges were not included. They also did not include the cost materials for boxing my TV and other items that were on the list.
Use someone else! They completely overcharged me and took all day to move the contents of a packed 900 sq foot condo 30 miles away. I was charged $1500 for that! It took them 7 hours just to load the truck, but only 2 to unload it. They said it was because the condo was far off the road. But 2 movers moved even more stuff into that same condo in 3 hours, including moving it out of another place. I was paying for 3 guys, but 1 only worked half the time. He spent a lot of time on the truck and was working to service the truck that had problems with the oil. One wrapped the furniture inside, and it was complete overkill. He wrapped it as if it were shipping across country, and then charged me for the shrink wrap and tape! I believe that was to add to the time, thus enhancing the charges. The second guy did most of the work, carrying the wrapped furniture to the truck. I felt bad for him. The only two pieces that weren't wrapped were damaged, and I'm still looking for pieces of furniture that are apparently forever lost. They rushed to unload and many things were broken/leaking as a result. All the boxes were dumped in one room. It was a complete mess! I've moved quite a bit, and this was the worst move experience ever! Don't use them!
Since then, I've called and spoken with Julie, the sales person who I worked with at the beginning to schedule the move; John, the dispatch manager; and the owner of the subcontracting company. I have been the person to initiate contact every single time. No one has ever reached out to me to schedule a delivery date or to let me know they weren't going to show up as scheduled.
After reading the reviews on Yelp, I hired NorthStar for my move from DC to Long Beach. They subcontracted out my job to a company called Active Moving from NYC. The team wrapped and loaded my furniture on 18 September. I was a little annoyed the owner chastised me for using boxes from Home Depot. I'm honestly not sure where else I would get moving boxes? I got the heavy duty ones... but his team was fast, efficient, and friendly.
Andy, Anthony and Oscar did a great job. They were all very quick at moving things out of my apartment and into my new place. Were accommodating with some oversized stuff. They're really talented art tetrising those big items. Would definitely recommend.
Summary: It's been a month. I've had to initiate all of the conversations with them. I was essentially told my contract was worthless. I don't know when my things will be delivered or how much it will cost.
A few weeks later, I hadn't heard from anyone, so I reached out to the subcontractor. They said they would schedule me for Saturday 7 Oct (the first day I could move into my new place). They called and confirmed the day before. They did not show up during the scheduled delivery window. I texted with the owner and he said they would come out the next day instead. They did not show up during the scheduled delivery window. I texted him to see if they were still planning to come that day, and he said they were unable to get into the warehouse where my things were stored.
Maybe this service is better with local moves, but I cannot recommend them for long-distance move coordination and execution
They followed directions well, treated our items with respect and worked hard every minute.
They were available immediately every time we called, and gave us the first appointment we asked for. Randy, Emanuel and Andy were a great team.
Working with North Star Moving was seamless from beginning to end. Their convenient video chat estimate made things so easy.
We moved from LA to Oceanside and the guys did a great job. Professional and friendly. Great service.
The contract I signed said my furniture would be delivered between 23 Sept - 10 Oct. It is 17 October and I still have not received my things. The dispatch manager essentially said that date range doesn't mean anything once my furniture reaches the warehouse.
This is where my frustration begins:
So...at this point, I have no idea when I will get back literally everything I own. I also have no idea how much it will really cost since my estimate wasn't accurate. I am completely frustrated and I will try reaching out to the BBB to see if they can provided assistance.
