I love the quiet of a museum. There are quite a few new pieces since I was last there. There is something for everyone, multimedia, paintings , sculpture, etc. If you like museums it wotry a visit and Thursday night's 5 to 8 are free entry.
very nice permanent collection in DTLA which includes a room full of Rothko paintings and few Rauschemberg, a Giacometti sculpture, a very nice Miro' and a couple of Kline paitings and a Chamberlain sculpture and much more.. I really enjoyed the temporary exhibition of Anna Maria Maiolino. I think this museum would benefit from a larger space. it centrally located and it offers free entry every Thursday from 5pm to 8pm with free guided tours. very beautiful space and interesting exhibitons also at the MOCA Geffen in Little Tokyo.
Breezed through fairly quickly. For some reason I thought the museum was much larger. Could be because they closed half of the museum for a new installation. Can't complain too much though, I went on freebie Thursday. Probably should've taken my time to really take in the artwork.
Everytime I come to LA I go check out what's happening at the MOCA. It's not a huge Museum but big enough to spend a few hours in if you enjoy looking at art. The museum is divided into two sections, the modern and contemporary art. I come specifically to see what's showing in their fully rotating contemporary arts gallery. I've seen some great exhibits there. I definitely recommend the MOCA if you're curious about what artists are currently up to (plus a few years back, I've seen Warhol exhibits here too). Great stuff, I always leave inspired.
Fairly small museum. When I went two of the main exhibits we're completely blocked off so I saw most of the art in less than an hour. Great collections but only for a quick visit or a specific artist you may be looking for.
