I took my son here to be seen due to a back injury he suffered last year. My son had been receiving treatment for his injury in Texas, and then we decided to be seen here when we moved to California this year.
I am disappointed, and sorry to say that I have not had a good experience with this clinic.
A few days after the appointment, I checked my insurance company's website, and saw that this office had ordered DME supplies for my son he didn't need. I called them and let them know that I think they mixed my son's chart up with someone elses and that he doesn't need DME supplies, but actually needs a physical therapy order put in. I had to call back twice to rectify this, as the order still did not get put in. My husband and I decided to seek a second opinion from another doctor after this and called this office to get back the old imaging disc which belonged to us, which they had not returned to us before we left on the day of the appointment, and we also wanted request to have copies of our son's records and the images taken during that appointment on a cd and mailed to us. They refused, stating that they did not want to mail out cd's due to risk of damage. I called back multiple times to try to negotiate this, as we live two hours away and did not want to drive all the way back just to request records. I even offered to mail them a check for $5 to cover the cost of the imaging disc from them, and offered to send a prepaid envelope if they would just send me the records. They still refused to mail me anything, including the imaging disc which we had brought with us and left behind at that appointment, which was our personal property. I contacted my son's primary doctor here at Edwards and let them know what was going on. A patient advocate from my son's PCM tried to assist me with this as well, calling the office in Encino to ask if there was any way that the records and images could be mailed. They got no cooperation either, and I ended up having to drive all the way back from Edwards to Encino, just to pick up records and medical imaging discs, because they would not cooperate at all.
This is the second sports related injury for my daughter this year. We have seen Dr. Hoang for both injuries; she is very informative and has been tremendous. The office visits have always been timely and quick. I highly recommend this office.
In short, it was a very bad experience. I would not recommend going to this office for care.
A few things happened during the appointment that upset me. For one thing, it seemed rushed. The doctor initially mixed us up with another patient he was seeing that day. This was rectified quickly, but was concerning. The next thing is that during the physical exam, I do not think that this was intentional, but the doctor was a bit too rough when giving my son his physical exam, which caused my son to break into tears. Even when my son was crying he did not seem to really slow down or give my son a minute to recover before continuing on. We tried to brush this off, as my son has a medical condition that makes him sensitive to pain. It bothered me greatly that during the exam and the entire process actually, the doctor left the exam room door open, including when my son had to remove his shirt to be examined. no privacy at all. The doctor ordered x rays and then did not take the time to compare the xrays taken in his office during this appointment to the previous xrays we had brought in with us. His explanation was that my son does not have an injury that will ever really heal. I realize this, but I disagreed because the xrays still need to be compared to see if the injury has gotten worse. He seemed to explain some things okay, but did not take the time to answer our questions at all.The impression that I got was that he was taking the time to cover only what he thought was important. If we tried to ask a question, he actually seemed to glaze right over it, not taking the time to answer. Generally not a good experience..
Great bedside skills. Very informed and great with kids and parents.
The service is very good with Dr. Brookenthal and Dr. Rozansky, but they are so busy they sometimes forget about you or take up to an hour and a half more to assist you.
This is the best Adolescent doctor EVER. Don't settle for any other to see and help your child, Dr. Brookenthal is awesome.
